2014 Training Courses at the Auroville Earth Institute

The Auroville Earth Institute, located in Southern India, offers training courses on Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEB) and Arches, Vaults, & Domes (AVD) throughout the year. Course content ranges from theory for design principles to hands-on building and block production. All courses are held in English and the schedule is very intensive. At the end of each week-long course, a certificate is given along with the manual covering the topic of the course.

3-8 February CSEB : Design Studio How to design a building with CSEB. Theory (3 days) & practice (3 days studio). Architect background & AutoCAD basics required.
10-15 February CSEB : Production How to produce CSEB´s with Auram press 3000, set up a unit and select a good soil. Theory (2 days) & practice (4 days).
17-22 February CSEB : Masonry How to use earth to build foundations, walls, columns, beams… Hands on (6 days).
7-12 April CSEB : Production How to produce CSEB´s with Auram press 3000, set up a unit and select a good soil. Theory (2 days) & practice (4 days).
14-19 April CSEB : Masonry How to use earth to build foundations, walls, columns, beams… Hands on (6 days).
2-7 June Ferrocement How to cast various ferro-cement pieces. Hands on (6 days).
9-14 June AVD : Theory Stability study of arches, vaults and domes in CSEB. Theory (2 days) & practice (4 days). Minimum knowledge of mathematics required.
16-21 June AVD : Masonry Building arches, vaults and domes. Hands on (6 days).

14-19 July CSEB : Intensive Combination of CSEB Production & Masonry. Theory, practice, and hands on.
21-26 July AVD : Intensive Combination of AVD Theory & Masonry. Theory, practice, and hands on. Minimum knowledge of mathematics required.
28 July-2 August CSEB : Intensive Combination of CSEB Production & Masonry. Theory, practice, and hands on.

Training courses are restricted to 30 people and a written confirmation should be obtained before sending persons to attend a course.
A minimum of 12 trainees is required, otherwise the course will be cancelled.
